The vegetarian food is construed to be Sattvic (pure) food and the other as Rajasic and Tamasic. In Hindureligion, those following spiritual path are supposed to consume Sattvic food. It is strongly believed that this kind of food  helps in achieving the desired spiritual goals. This leads to general faith that food contributes in making of proper mind and body. It is pertinent to note that the food certainly makes body strong and active but at the same time it helps in building one’s mind too. The following would explain the matter.

The Sattvic food does not necessarily mean only vegetarian but also the one prepared by consistently remembering the all-mighty. It could be ascertained whether food changes one’s perspective by just taking Sattvicfood for some specified time. The result would be certainly affirmative. The food prepared in anger, desperation and aggrieved state of mind can not be termed Sattvic as vibrations of that state of mind would be mixed in the food and this food would affect the mind of the one consuming it.

The Moon is considered to be the lord of mind. The mind plays a major role in deciding the mode of the life of a person. Sound mind makes a person strong enough to face any untoward situation. We are aware that the Moon is nearest to the Earth on the day of Pournima, causing substantial increase in gravitational force of the Earth. Owing to this, there is high tide and sudden surge in sea water. Once the full Moon event is over, the sea becomes quiet leading to the phenomenon called ebb (receding of sea water from its place).

Pournima affects human body and its mind. The human body contents 70% of water or fluid, hence it is said that the position of Moon affects human body as in the case of sea. Human being is the combination of body and mind. That’s why if mind is sound, body also sound. Therefore our emotions gain momentum identical to the sea water level, on full Moon day. This becomes a regular feature of the mind on such days. The slightest of provocation can cause a major disaster.

It is, therefore advised to restrain one’s behavior as the status of Moon does have effect on human mind. Taking into consideration that stars do affect the human being, no one should resort to such things which may ultimately make them repent on the actions perpetrated earlier. Only sound mind can help mitigate the dangers of evil acts.

Hence it is advised to undertake meditation, chanting of mantras or divine name of the God, worship to acquire mental peace.  Those already are on a spiritual path, certainly understand the existence of positive energy on the full Moon day and are required to convert this to their benefit. All are advised to control the emotions, avoid to take other’s insolence, rudeness to personal level, as they are also passing through the same phase.

Let us be alert and vigilant with the aforesaid information to keep effective control over our mind in order to achieve mental peace, as the sensitive and emotional persons are bound to suffer severely.

After long, tedious tiring journey, he arrived in Jagannath Puri temple which was crowded with devotees. He entered the temple and viewed the idols. At once, there was commotion, as a young boy, with offerings of food was inquiring about Tulsidas. Goswamiji thought that worshipers of Lord Jagannath might have come to know about his plight (hunger) and hence must have sent the plate full of food for his consumption. He summoned the boy. The boy told Tulsidas that Lord Jagannath had sent him the offerings. Tulsidasji declined and said he would not consume the food, prior to his own offering to his deity Lord RamaThe boy meekly told that it was sent by his Lord Himself. The devotees keep fast for  the whole day, worship Lord Ganesha in the evening at the time of the Moon-rise and then break the fast by consumption of food. There is a very interesting story related to the ritual of Sankashta Chaturthi.

Once Lord Ganesha while riding on Mouse (Mushaka), skidded in a hurry which amused the Moon and laughed at Lord Ganesha. The irritated Ganesha cursed the moon that no one would see him, and if anyone sighting the Moon, would be charged with theft. The Moon, sensing the debacle surrendered to Lord Ganesha and prayed for the mercy. The Lord Ganesha toned down the effect of the curse to once in a year and said no one should view moon on the day of Ganesh Chaturthi (Bhadrapad Shukla Chaturthi as per Hindu Panchang).

The moon requested Lord Ganesha to suggest some remedy, if someone mistakenly sights him on Ganesh Chaturthi, the Lord Ganesha advised to follow Sankashta Chaturthi Wrata (Hindu ritual). The wrata is to be carried out with full religious fervor. The devotee is to bathe with black seasame water, early morning, worship Lord Ganesha through out the day and end the fast in the evening, as per the Moon time. The simple and quick fruit-bearing ritual must be followed by one and all.
